Stihl TS800 Spark Plug & Engine Care

The spark plug in your Stihl TS800 might be small, but it’s the heartbeat of the saw. A worn or fouled plug can make the difference between a clean start and pulling your shoulder out trying to get the engine to fire.

For the TS800, stick with the plug spec Stihl recommends—usually an NGK BPMR7A or equivalent. Gap it correctly (0.5 mm) and check it regularly. If you’re running the saw daily, that means weekly inspections.

Why so often? These saws work in brutal conditions. Dust, vibration, and high heat are part of the game. Over time, that environment can foul plugs faster than you think.

If you notice hard starts, uneven idle, or weak top-end power, the plug is the first place to look. But don’t stop there—plug issues can point to deeper engine problems like improper fuel mix or dirty air filters.

Keep your TS800 tuned, clean, and fueled with quality gas. That spark plug is the canary in the coal mine—listen to it, and you’ll catch small problems before they become big ones.
